Servicing

Servicing

Servicing of MVHR and MEV Systems to keep them functioning correctly.

MVHR Servicing

A heat recovery system recovers heat and energy otherwise lost from your property. It can recover up to 90% of normally wasted heat and reduce your heating requirements by up to 25%. It also improves your indoor air quality by providing an air change with fresh filtered air.

Manufacturers state that a service should be completed on an annual basis in order to comply with their warranty terms and to prevent fan failure.

Filters should be checked and changed more frequently to ensure that the filters are not so dirty that they are blocking the airflow or allowing dirt to pass through.

Why is it important to have my MVHR system serviced annually?

Servicing a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system is crucial for several reasons:

1. Ensures Optimal Performance

  • Regular servicing keeps the system running efficiently, ensuring proper ventilation and heat recovery.
  • Helps maintain energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption and lowering utility bills.

2. Preserves Indoor Air Quality

  • Filters in MVHR systems capture dust, pollen, and other pollutants. Over time, they clog and need cleaning or replacement to prevent poor air circulation.
  • A neglected system can reintroduce allergens and pollutants into the air, affecting occupants' health.

3. Prevents System Damage

  • Dust and debris buildup in ducts, fans, or heat exchangers can strain the system, potentially leading to breakdowns or reduced lifespan.
  • Servicing identifies early signs of wear or damage, preventing costly repairs.

4. Reduces Noise Levels

  • A poorly maintained MVHR system can become noisy due to clogged filters or mechanical issues.
  • Regular servicing ensures quiet and smooth operation.

5. Meets Warranty Requirements

  • Many MVHR manufacturers require routine servicing to keep warranties valid.
  • Lack of maintenance could void the warranty, leaving you liable for repairs.

6. Promotes Energy Savings

  • Heat recovery efficiency decreases when the system isn't maintained, leading to higher energy usage.
  • Cleaning and servicing ensure maximum heat recovery performance.

MEV Servicing

A central extract ventilation system helps improves your indoor air quality by extracting humidity and pollutants from your property.

Manufacturers state that a service should be completed on an annual basis in order to comply with their warranty terms and to prevent fan failure.

Regular maintenance will ensure efficient operation, save money and reduce the risk of failure.

Why is it important to have my MEV system serviced annually?

Servicing a Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) system is crucial for the following reasons:

1. Maintains Proper Ventilation

  • MEV systems continuously extract stale and moist air from areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Over time, dust, grease, and debris can accumulate, reducing airflow and ventilation effectiveness.

2. Preserves Indoor Air Quality

  • A clogged or poorly maintained MEV system may fail to remove pollutants, moisture, and odours effectively, leading to poor indoor air quality.
  • This can contribute to health issues such as allergies, respiratory problems, and headaches.

3. Prevents Mould and Damp Issues

  • MEV systems are vital for controlling humidity levels in a property.
  • If not serviced, reduced extraction capacity can lead to condensation buildup, promoting mould growth and damp problems, which can damage the property and affect occupant health.

4. Reduces Energy Consumption

  • A poorly functioning MEV system works harder to extract air, consuming more energy.
  • Regular maintenance ensures the system operates efficiently, reducing energy costs.

5. Extends System Lifespan

  • Dirt and debris can strain the motor and other components, leading to wear and tear.
  • Servicing prevents premature failures and extends the life of the system.

7. Minimises Noise Levels

  • A neglected MEV system may produce excessive noise due to blockages or mechanical issues.
  • Servicing keeps the system running quietly.

What a Service Includes

  • Filter cleaning (replacements an additional cost)
  • Cleaning of heat exchanger (for MVHR systems only) and subject to access
  • Testing of motors
  • Cleaning of room diffusers
  • Measuring airflows through each ceiling valve.
  • Service reports and commissioning sheets

Service Booking FAQs

What time will the engineer arrive?

The times given are approximate. Please allow 1 hour either side of the estimated time of arrival provided. If your appointment is scheduled before/at 9am, it is unlikely we will be much earlier or later than the allotted time.

How long does a service take?

It depends on the size of the property, how many ceiling valves there are and when the system was last serviced. As an estimate houses with single systems are generally 1.5 – 2.5 hours.  Single storey flats are generally 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

Do I have to complete any preparation prior to the visit?

You need to ensure the ventilation unit is clear for servicing prior to the engineers visit, whether this be in front of the unit (if wall mounted) or below the unit (if ceiling mounted). Should units be located in loft spaces, the loft must be boarded from the access point to the front of the ventilation unit.

Will the service fix any faults?

Completion of a service does not guarantee that any existing faults will be fixed or won’t occur in the future. If faults are still apparent following the service, we may issue a separate quote for repair works. If our engineer is unable to complete all or part of the service due to the manufacturers design of the unit, faults found, no access or new parts being required, the service charge is still payable in full.

How do I pay?

An invoice will be issued to you shortly after the completion of the service. This will be sent by email and will have payment options listed. Please note that we do not accept card payments. Only bank transfer or cheque.

Can I cancel my appointment?

For any cancellations of appointments, the following charges apply:-

  • Within 3 working days notice = 100% of the service charge applies.
  • Within 4-5 working days notice = 50% of the service charge applies.

The customer should advise in writing (via email to info@servicevent.co.uk) that they wish to cancel the appointment.

Please read carefully our terms and conditions which details further information.
